The archerfish is named for its peculiar habit of shooting a stream of water like an arrow at its unsuspecting prey—a tasty insect perched inches above the water.
There are several varieties of archerfish in the wild, the one native to northern Australia being one of the biggest at 40 cm long.
Learn more about the archerfish at http://aqua.org/australia/animalencounters_archerfish.html, and then
visit the Animal Planet Australia: Wild Extremes exhibit at the National Aquarium, Baltimore, to see them up-close, in-person. Don't miss our public archerfish feedings Wednesday through Sunday, at 4:15 p.m.
