the PS3 comes with the "install other os" option... i'm gonna guess and say that it has no effect on your warranty. just a guess.

Use it same as a computer...
Word, Excel, Internet, MSN....

so what you mean I can do this and still the PS3 will play Oblivion ect... and use Linux?

Sure. Will make the PS3 have PC funtion, you can use MSN, Office, Movie Player (Support AVI,WMV,MP4,RMVB etc..), Music Player, Email Client, Internet also...
