When Machine Quilting and using your Decorative Stitches it is really important to bring up the bobbin thread to the top before starting to stitch to prevent "thread nests" in the bobbin or on the back of the quilt.

Thank you so much for watching my videos!

  • What do I do with the 'tails' once I've complete my stitches? I don't what to knot them -- do I hand stitch them back into the center? help, thanks. ME

  • @jmelison1 If I have backstitched or secured the ends of my stitching, then I just clip both threads on the top. If I am using rayon thread in the top & bobbin, then I will knot the ends, by hand, and just clip the tails. I don't bury knots, the thread is going to shrink slightly when the quilt is washed and the knot will be drawn into the quilt, and even if it isn't, no one takes a magnifying glass to it :) My quilts are user quilts, only show quilts need to have perfect stops & starts :) ~MM

  • Unfortunately I got all ready to quilt and started in doing that. BUT after sewing a short bit of time I realized that I had lost the bobbin thread. Try as I might, I cannot pull that bobbin thread up. I have changed bobbins, changed the top thread spool but I can't get that bobbin thread up. Any suggestions? HELP!!

  • @19paula49 Hi Paula, the two reasons that I know of that might prevent the race from completing its cycle, allowing you to bring up the bobbin thread, are too much lint in the race (or fabric or thread bits) or the machine timing is off. Try cleaning thoroughly (and oil) and see if that helps. If not, you might have a mechanic check the timing.

  • Thanks! I've always heard "pull up your bobbin thread!" But never knew how to do it! I am teaching myself how to quilt by watching You Tube videos and your's REALLY helped!

  • @marymiler Thank you for your comment - I am so glad that my video helped! I have several more quilting videos in the works and if you subscribe to my channel you'll get notice as soon as they are uploaded :) Happy quilting, Marguerita
