Interview with Plugin Conversions founder and president Kim Adelman after successful conversion of 2009 Prius to run on his company's new battery retrofit kit.
As of October 1, 2011, you can find second-generation Prius examples with asking prices under $8,000. Some need the traction battery replaced, and will thus sell for even less, especially if a small used car dealer is offered cash.
That means that with a $7,000 car and a $13,500* conversion from this company, one can own a modern automobile that earns 90 miles per gallon on the freeway with a mere $21,000 budget. This is less than the cost of an average new car. This is serious progress!
@physivic I'm thinking of buying a second generation Prius. I saw one for $10.000 do you think that's a good deal? It had 80k miles. Also any tips?
