In Kenya today, one can hardly go a few meters without seeing a construction site, either residential or commercial. Real estate firms are making a killing as an emerging middle class invests in housing, and this growth has led to the emergence of a new trend. Tatu city, a mega holistic lifestyle city was launched yesterday and if this ambitious development will become a reality, then gone are the days when one had to come to Nairobi for work, or otherwise. Tony Timase brings as a look at trends that seem to mark tomorrow's real estate sector.

  • If the cost of living there will not skyrocket to be like Nairobi, then I can see it happening. And besides, it's time to empty Nairobi, the congestion is seriously overtaxing the system.

  • Oh My GOD!!! I have got to get out of South Africa

  • I hope that the design will be executed by Kenyan architects and urban designers....just my opinion as a Kenyan architect. Great thought for the growing population.

  • @africaupdates You are absolutely correct. These guys do things too hastily without the right people.

  • I hope this doesn't turn out to be another white elephant.

  • good project! the common mwananchi will move up a level as those who can afford it move to better places e.g. tatu ... e,g from jericho to buru buru and the ripple effect ...until kibera empty's!

  • @nedatronics True...this doesn't make sense to 60% of Kenyans!

  • HII NDIO MAENDELEO TUNATAKA

  • This undertaking is remarkable and I believe it will solve lots of issues for its residents, from security to transport/recreation/shopping, etc. It's the way to go for the future, but I cannot help wondering why they had to use a full 1000 acres of arable, indeed very fertile Kiambu. And why construct 4-5some levels and not go higher to maximize on the prime are. I think areas beyond Athi river or Ngong would have been more favorable.

  • They say it 'll cost KSH200Billion.By the time that comes to reality it'll be blown out of proportion.....KSH500Billion,wait & see.
