The numbers quoted are accurate. I don't work for the electric company, I work for myself. Yes, our energy bill seems really low, but the numbers are accurate and right from the bills.

To do this to a residential neighborhood to save less than 3 cents an hour is inefficient, irresponsible, and dangerous.

  • Hi,

My family has been using wood to heat our home for 25+ years.

-Your neighbor needs to use a damper, this cuts back on smoke output and provides a cleaner burn. Just talk to him about this.

-In 25 years we have never produced a smoke cloud of this magnitude.

-Smoke cloudsd are caused by a smoldering fire (controlling the intake of air), but a damper controls the exit of smoke again creating cleaner air.

-You energy calculations are BS and wrong, you need to recalculate.

  • Our reply:

    1. The smoke you see is after the OWB owner has been given 5 years of advice, from friends, neighbors, the City, the OWB manufacturer. He doesn't take advice anymore.

    2. It's nice to hear some people still have consideration for their neighbors.

    3. ok

    4. The total costs are actual added up electric bills, our heat source. It is what it is. I claimed it on my taxes last year as part of my business. If my energy costs were higher I'd certainly claim it so I could write it off on taxes!

  • How is it being "used wrong"?

  • If you're claiming the $20.39 per month for "heating season" and you are heating with electricity, thats great! My house is sitting on 4 acres in the country and has a "clean" L.P. furnace. Average over the last 5 years is approximate 1780 gallons per season. This year is $1.89 per gallon. Thats Approx $3,360 per year. Not quite the cost of a candy bar for heating the house. Since the outdoor boiler was installed 2 years ago. I've used about 50 gallons (vacation times).

  • @MrDigees, that's fine, if you feel your health is not worth $3360 per year I won't disagree. I feel my health and life has more value than that.

  • It's all local politics as I found out with my city council and then the city planning commision. They love you until you go to them with your medical documentation that these OWB are killing you. Their attitude, "Live and let die" and "Don't let the door hit you on the way out". It's about them getting votes. But heh heh, I've got some other plans to go round them, as in media coverage and other angry, choking, baffing (on smoke) neighborhood. You OWB lobbyists, keep watching!

  • We look forward to hearing about your issue. Keep us updated!
