Part one of Richard Jobson and Emma Thompson's short film about the brutal realities of sex trafficking. Made in conjunction with The Helen Bamber Foundation featuring original music by Richard Ashcroft.

Emma Thompson on 'The Journey':
I've known Helen Bamber for about 25 years. When I was still a comedian, and doing stand-up, I would do a lot of benefits for the various foundations she was involved in. And when she started this new foundation, campaigning for the victims of human-rights abuse, she asked me to get involved - so I became chair.

The reason I've become particularly involved in this campaign heightening awareness of sex trafficking is that one of the victims spoke to me about her experiences. And I thought that her story would be something that might lend itself to many artistic forms. One of these was an installation which has just come back from New York and which I recently took to Madrid (it opened in Trafalgar Square a few years ago).

And the other was Richard's film. The Journey is quite abstract, because we felt that a lot of the films made about trafficking don't necessarily convey the full horror of what these woman go through. So, rather than making it with a traditional narrative, Richard made something that's about what happens on the inside. With me, floating about, being appalled, on the outside. We wanted to create something that was a visceral experience.

  • wtf this fucking asshole

  • Ppl wudnt choose to be part of pornography if there isn't demand for sex,& be degraded, tortured, views as objects, & treated as less than humans. No one wakes one day & say they want to become a prostitute or sexual slaves in pornography industries. Dey choose it b/c they are put in that situation & each story is different. It's not JUST A JOB, it takes away purpose of those ppls lives & as much as men & women like watching porn, there's a whole other reality out there & we shudnt be ignorant!

  • It's not an argument about if it's coerced or consensual sex work. Why is there a friggen demand for sex in the market, in the first place? Pornography or sexual trafficking...it's degrading and it deprives peoples lives who are involved, especially women. If important decision makers come up with solutions that can put into action immediately and effectively everywhere....instead of sitting and talking about it, this would slowly decrease.

  • Some People are so evil and it's sad to see those innocent people becoming a sex slave.

  • trust no one

  • @DarkprinX2500 Since when is pornography the same as sex slavery? So do you think all sex work is trafficking? Can't you make any distinctions between what is consensual and what it coerced?

  • @buggerarsetitwank I also have a sneaking suspicion that some people purposely conflate sex trafficking with consensual sex work.
