Matt Seeberger's performance, making the finals of the 2009 Sacramento Hardbat Fest, was remarkable in that not only was it his first tournament ever, it was the first time he had ever even been to a table tennis club! A completely self-taught basement player, he was undefeated in the preliminary rounds, beating two players rated over 2000. He is seen here losing a close match in the final against Scott Gordon. Matt is not only the strongest true "basement" player I've ever met, but he also has the best two-handed backhand I've ever seen in table tennis. His style is utterly unique and very fun to watch.

A final note, Matt is using a Don Varian Hock teardrop-shaped paddle, which he liked because he said it helped his backhand grip!

  • Matt was the best tennis player I came across when i was playing junior tennis. He was so much better than me that it wasnt even fun for him to play against me. He got even better which is kind of scary

  • This is extreme ping pong

  • It hurts me but I think he plays better than me...

  • This Guy disbanded college tennis player

  • I'd sure like to play him, I'm an attacking player, and attack vs. attack usually= a blast...I'm kind of surprised he even lost seeing as how that guy he was up against pretty much played everything I saw in the video right into Matt's strength...Then again I never cared for chopping. P.S. 1969 is a great first hardbat.com rating to have...almost as high as mine.

  • I also use the two hand and i think it provides more control and power unlike the one hand which is either a block or crazy swing

  • its obvious that this guy plays tennis

  • When playing at a higher level you need to switch from forehand to backhand in milliseconds, i'm not sure you can do that with two hands on the racket.

  • @IchabodCrane888 I teach kids how to play table tennis at a school and I teach the shakehand grip because if they will learn tennis later the grip is similar, but here in Brazil most players use japanese penhold. I think no problem if you feel good at two handed backhand, we can say it is a style, not a wrong technique.

  • I used a two handed forehand only when I'm trying to power the ball home on table tennis.
