@Isochest I agree. Marx himself lived his own life as a set of glaring contradictions. His revolutionary zeal certainly ensured he kept one eye closed to many things that didn't fit his neat little world view. It's something that seems to be shared by most people who want a simple answer, or let's say, the same answer to every question. But yes, we'll never know.

@ritchloui I think of Marx as having omitted this obvious vehicle of control on purpose. Whether he did as I imagine we shall probably never know but I see him as a slayer disguised as a saviour.

@Isochest Indebtedness is indeed a very effective way of 'enslaving' people. This obvious oversight always pissed me off about Marx. He never understood the role of debt. However, there really are some things that are unique to slavery and the word is too often used to glibly describe poverty and hardship. @Isochest Let me see. How much do you know about the Arab Muslim slave trade? You know, the slave trade that never stopped. You know, the one that's been going on now for 1,400 years. @Isochest Wrong. Where is all the Negro ancestry in the 'Arab' countries. They imported more Africans in the last 1,400 years than were ever shipped to the Americas. Yet, in the latter case, there is clear evidence of the African ancestry. This is not so in the 'Arab' countries. We have to ask ourselves why. I think you can guess the answer, the Negro slaves were not allowed to procreate once they had been transported to the Islamic states. A 100% genocide in fact.
