L'incontrollabile provocatore Harmony Korine (Gummo, Julien Donkey-Boy, Mister Lonely), torna con una distorta e radicale riflessione sull'oscenità e la perversione della cultura televisiva. In un'America suburbana e post-apocalittica i suoi personaggi, mascherati da vecchi, intraprendono azioni insensate di vandalismo performativo e cantano ripetutamente inquietanti filastrocche. L'estetica no-budget (il film è girato in VHS) va oltre i limiti di ciò che chiamiamo "film" e rende superfluo ogni interrogativo su generi e formati. Korine riesce, in forma molto personale, a rendere quella che il suo mentore Werner Herzog chiama "verità estatica".
Primo nella classifica dei migliori film non distribuiti di indieWIRE, Trash Humpers è stato presentato al festival di Toronto ed è stato accolto trionfalmente al festival di Rotterdam.

Honestly, I thought it was a pretty good film. Korine's films have always been more of the type where you'd rather enjoy watching individual scenes on Youtube (they sometimes don't work well in an hour and a half movie), but each of his individual scenes tends to be pretty funny or tends to really touch your heart. Trash Humpers was no different IMO, just a little too filler toward the end.

@Misterioso nah, harmony describes the film more as an ode to vandalism and slapstick.

America can turn anything of insignificance into cultural relevance. For example, Jackass. What was it about this idiotic series that incited the popularity it achieved? Dressing up in obviously fake elderly man masks and performing supposed tricks is something any moron can do. This is a satire of said phenomenon. Like Gummo was an attack on the bottom of the barrel species who reside in not only Ohio but the majority of the US.
