San Rafael Contra Dance w/ Cis Hinkle & Notorious (Oct. 2009, NBCDS)

Contra dance on October 4th, 2009 in San Rafael, CA. Cis Hinkle of Georgia is calling, with Notorious playing: Eden MacAdam-Somer (fiddle/vocals), Larry Unger (guitar/banjo), Sam Bartlett (mandolin/jaw harp), Mark Hellenberg (percussion/banjo uke), and Adaiha MacAdam-Somer (cello) and Eddy Jay (accordion) sitting in.

Contra dance is easy and fun. No experience is necessary, no partners required and newcomers are welcome. All our dances are taught and prompted, and feature great live music -- fantastic fiddle tunes, driving Celtic rhythms, Cajun, old-timey, and whatever else the band gets charged up with.

Contra dance is a form of couples folk dance that emphasizes pattern, flow and rhythm. Easier dances are usually called at the beginning of the evening, then a break for snacks and socializing, then more complex contras. (There are also a few waltzes thrown in for good measure.) It's a great workout for the mind, body and soul. If you can walk, you can do contra dance.
