Imagine a meteor smashing into the earth and thrusting out clumps of rock into space. Gravity will play a key role in simulating this scenario, and in this tutorial by Stuart Christensen you will quickly learn a simple method to create this awesome dynamics effect. The tutorial uses an object, plane and some text to illustrate this effect which is created by using the Soft/Rigid bodies active and passive keys to turn on the simulation at the moment of impact and then let Maya take it from there to play out the effects.

  • Would it be possible to add a picture instead of the sphere?

  • @CinemaSketch Yes, just create a plane instead of a sphere and attach an image sequence or picture to the plane. Check out my tutorial on attaching an image sequence to a plane! Hope that helps.

  • @runelink2 Dude....Look em up in the help section if you need or want to use them. I stay away from shortcuts in tutorials because I've customized some to fit how I work, but for the most part tutorials don't use shortcuts to avoid confusion and to keep information and interface at defaults whenever possible for the most predictable results.

  • @deepfriedectoplasm the whole plane thing seems kind of complicated is there a way where I could make a chicken nugget shape and then just add the texture of a chicken nugget? Kind of a weird question but I want to make an intro for my friend who is about nuggets so I'm trying to incorporate that into the intro haha

  • Would it be possible to add a picture in instead of the sphere
