  • Im doing this song right now! Quite simple really. Um, if you are the drummer, why didnt you play the correct snare beat? Was it to hard at the time?

Oh and two measures before the end it is a drum full solo, my conductor said, have fun play as long as you like, so i went f*cking wild!

    Best drum fill ever =P

    About a minute long =)

I'll try to get a video at the concert

  • Especially for drums in jazz/funk charts, whats on the page is only written to show the relative style of the piece and to show any really important accents or spots for fills. As a drummer, you almost want to stay away from playing precisely whats written because its just "time" that's writte on the sheet. For this song, a good rock/funk groove is in order, and as long as you can make it sound fitting to the music,

  • its anyone's game really.

Drum solo at the end? nice! link it as a response or something if you can get it recorded.

P.S. yeah I was the drummer in this band

  • That was okay, but I agree about the trumpets! And fellow trombones, play louder =).

My band is playing this tomorrow as one of the songs for our Homecoming half time show!

  • Yeah this was my high school band last spring so it's essentially high school quality :P

What university do you go to? I'm at UWO for music now, i was the drummer in this song.

  • Lol i'm still in high school lol (a freshman!) and I go to a school in wisconsin lol

  • Oh yeah in the US eh, i'm in canada, i hear US music programs are friggin sweeeeet! haha

  • @daswimkid calm down.

  • wow why don't you try not being such an ass?

  • way to fast??

    no sir

    listen to bill chase's recording.

  • Very poor...maybe the camera just sucks...its also WAY too fast.

  • Nice !!! in memorian 1974

  • our marching band played this song this year and we placed 3rd at competition both times. lol. i have a video on youtube, so you guys should check it out and comment it ;)

  • that's no excuse...our HS trumpets got it...

  • Ran out of room...anyway the reason I think the tempo is too fast for this particular group is really evident when they start doing the call and response between the brass and winds. Those poor saxes and trumpets sound like they are doing those runs and praying they hit some sort of note. And someone should really check and make sure the band is ok because it sounds like there was some accident at 0:58 bless their hearts and good on the trumpet for trying to hit that last note at the end

  • I played this song years ago in Jazz Band and I could tell with the first few notes that this band was going to be in trouble. No offense to this group they did a nice job but I think that a lot of the articulation issues and intonation issues could be solved if maybe they slowed the tempo down just a hair. I also agree with a few commentors, there is no reason those trumpets can't play in the upper octave.

  • hard song but im doing it for marching band, really hard to memorize and we gotta get this down in like 2 weeks. but nice job
