Prio Paper Cast: designed by Nicholas Riddle for Dyson Award 2009

The Prio Paper Cast is a flat pack splint for disaster response that combines low-weight, ease of installation and easy triage identification within a folding paper cast. The primary function of the paper cast is to immobilize injured limbs, in this case an arm.
The problem that exists at the site of an accident or disaster is one of scarcity of medical expertise, resources and communication. The Prio Paper Cast can be installed in less than 2 minutes with no prior experience. Lightweight and flat, the Prio Paper Cast can be shipped in large numbers in a small box, quickly and inexpensively to areas that may be suffering from a diminished shipping infrastructure. The Prio Paper Cast augments the first-responders tool kit enabling them to carry more to those in need at the scene of accidents and disasters. Lastly, the Prio Paper Cast features existing triage color-coding for rapid visual identification of a patients triage status and room for doctors notes and instructions.
