Under the blistering sun of GREECE (actually Berkeley, California) Sean shows us the Monochord of Pythagoras and its theory, the Flute of the God Pan, and the Aulos
( Reed Pipes) as played in the theater, for athletic contests, and for many other contexts, in Ancient Greece.
Sean is wearing the Chiton (chai-ton, a Shirt) and the Himation (Hi ma tee on, a Rectangular Cloak) made by Sharon Devlin Folsom. These Clothes were part of my "Instruments of Antiquity" show at many "Symposia", or Meetings, put on by the Computer Science Corporation, from 1992 to 1998. Sean made all the Instruments shown here.

  • @tortelli Yes, I made it out of Apple Wood in 1989.

It's a copy (in Wood) of the Lord Elgin Aulos in the

    British Museum, London, England.

With the Holmos bulb attached, it plays a Bb minor scale,

without the bulb it goes up a 4th to Eb minor.

  • Thanks Skip !
