Exotic Pets - Kinkajou - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.

This is a kinkajou. Kinkajous come from South America. They are a member of the raccoon family. They are very loving, they are very active. They are very jumpy, and they like to play and run around a lot. And they are herboreal, and they have a prehensile tail that helps them climb. They eat fruits and vegetables in the wild, a little bit of meat. Every once in a while, they might catch a bug. They like bananas, pears, apples, and we feed them a thing called monkey biscuits. This is a baby. They get about twice as big as this.

And in captivity, they make very very very good pets. They are very loving, and they are very playful. It is usually better to have them fixed as adults, if you are not planning on breeding them. This keeps them even more loving and more calm. You need to check your regulations where you live, and make sure that you do not need a permit, or if these are allowed. This is probably, everything good about a monkey without any of the bad things about a monkey. And they like to be played with, loved, cuddled. And then when you are done with them, you put them back in their very big cage, and they go to sleep. And they actually like that too. It is like having a big live teddy bear in your house. I like these a lot, and they are very fun.

  • Would you keep Kinkajou as a pet? Tell us in comments!

  • @geobeats I would LOVE to have a Kinkajou as a companion. I have a thing or exotic animals and after about 5 years of research I have found that this pet would fit perfectly with my lifestyle and schedule. Although it will be costly, I will start saving in the next year to get one plus the housing and food. I also read that they are pretty quiet and low in odor, which is a GREAT selling point with my wife.lol

  • @bedtrime hopefully you get one soon!

  • are they legal in kentucky

  • Can you give me a link where to buy a cage for these cuties?

  • kinks are actually usually quite aggressive- you should be careful with these. I work at a zoo with the kinks- I would say you ought to be careful about getting one of these as a pet. Some can be quite lovely.... but certainly not all.

  • America is weird... why would you want a "wild" animal as a pet! They belong in the wild not in a cage!!!

  • these kind of animals should be in their natural habitat not in a cage inside a house... it's sad

  • If they are nocturnal, why are they so active during the day?

  • do they cause allergies?

  • @poopg3 your right kinks are immpossib;le to train . tey go to he highest spot an pooop , i had 2 of em
