You don't actually use the heel of your foot to hit the pedal, you still use the pad of your foot, u keep your heel raised up then drop it down but hit the pedal with the pad of your foot, then raise your heel again and hit the pedal for the second hit with the pad of your foot again. Jared Faulk explains it perfectly. Look it up.

I myself can't do it yet... I can alternate RLRL pretty fast but not fast enough to play all that remains or hope for the dying... the shit I WANT to play:( I am too broke for axis so I will have to learn on cheapies. I guess it would've been nice to see a vid of u first day on normal pedals, and THEN you trying on ur high dolla pedals... you know, to show ppl the difference in ease of use/learning. But I liked the talking, ppl get on here to hear instructions/methods not stare at feet. Good job

Nice vid. It's nice to see others who are just starting out trying heeltoe

you strike the pedal twice.

hey guys, why not just practice playing double bass and be able to play the normal alternating left right way, works fine for me. Just takes a few month or so and you get it, granted you have nice pedals. i have $100 pearl pedals, just put some lube on all the hinges and axles and practice alot, then what do ya know, your fast.

@johndoe1027 You haven't got your bass drum set up wrongly at all you have it set up right, just a general tip it to make sure that the front hoop is at the same hight as the batter hoop (Well I make sure of it taht anyway). Also you are playing it correctly I play heel toe like this and have encountered no problems at all, I've been doing it like this for a few years now, I've been doing it on split boards, but then again I do have tiny feet. There is nothing wrong with how you play it though

@C4rbonNeon once u learn this technique dude u can do heel toe on the any pedal really its just learning the the roll then its super easy on ane pedal like i said buying a higher end pedal does help but i learned on one of those begginer pedals that come with like ur first drum set with no bottom plate its just the pivot man im telling u when u learn that its amazing how easy it really is but do check out Jared Faulk he is the best in this technique

@johndoe1027 i think he means your batter head is a little loose?
What do you think of those Trick Bigfoots? I bought the same pedals a few months ago and I'm having a hell of a time adjusting. I had been using Iron Cobras for many years. I'm not sure what it is I'm having problems adjusting to. The direct drive? The longboard? Dunno how long I should give new gear before I trade them in for something else, or just go back to the Cobras. Anyone have any thoughts?

@ibonyun I love them. It took me awhile to get them setup like I wanted them. I made notes, tried a particular setting, moved ONE setting, noted the difference and either went further with that setting or moved it back (if it was better before). They are SO adjustable that it's a pain at first. It took me at least 20-30 hours of playing on them before I could play the same things I used to do with the IC's. And the difference between the IC's and BFs is EVERYTHING. Everything is different.

Ok so how to you setup a bass drum "right" for heel toe?
johndoe1027 2 years ago
your bass drum has to be tilted to the front so your frist stroke beguins with your toe and responds whit the hill you pedal has to be adjusted or Rised to a 20 to 30 degrees so both of you strokes are even better 5 to 6 inches meke sure wen it hits it flush with the head, not trying to ofend but to help i wich some help in my dtuming

Thanks for the pointers. Just to make sure I understand you correctly... lower the resonant side of my bass drum to the floor and lift the heel of my pedal off the floor? I've never seen anyone do it that way.
