I just saw "Legends of The Canyon" and to a man.... Crosby, Stills and Nash ALL said they were intimidated by her vast talent. Nobody could write, sing, or play guitar as well as her. Crosby said that the only guitarist he ever heard who could play at Joni's level was the late Michael Hedges (Windham Hill records). But he was ONLY a guitarist and Joni did EVERYTHING. Honestly, I think of nobody past or present who can match her talent. Vastly underrated and unappreciated.

Perhaps she never released this song because shortly after composing/performing it, she "answered" herself. As a life- long lover of Joni I can't help but think this song is directly related to "Cactus Tree" which she did release on her first full album "Song to a Seagull". I challenge you to listen to the songs back to back and compare the similarities in chord progressions and melodic riffs, as well as the lyrical message with perhaps the characters' "tables turned". Hmm. So what do you.think?

I'm sort of surprised that she never released a recording of Just Like Me. It might have become one of her best. It has a more universal message than some of her songs.

I wouldn't say "vastly underrated and unappreciated" since the opposite is true but remember, each new generation creates their own, new, heroes and talents and, in time, everyone becomes a shadow, even the best of the best.

Hardly underrated and unappreciated, Joni Mitchell was the best signer songwriter of the 1967-1977 era, and acknowledged as such by music critics, the industry and fans alike. She was overshadowed a little at the top of the pop charts by all the other great rock bands of the time from the Beatles, to the Stones, to the Mamas and Papas, Heart, Jefferson Airplane, to Fleetwood Mac.

Her later journey into free form jazz beginning in 1977 with ablums like Don Juan's Reckless Daughter, Shine and Mingus, took her off the radio, distanced her from her pop rock fan base, and made her difficult to listen too. At that age Joni was also one of the most beautiful women in the world. Her early albums are in nearly every contemporary signer songwriters top 10 list. Joni Mitchell will remain more than appreciated and rated at the top of contemporary music forever.
