@mahler151 He actually wrote 7 but the 5th is the last written while the USA and Russia were still allied vs the Nazis and thus Prokofiev's work after that is much less known in the West. (And in Russia at the time as well.)

"Take Five" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet is also played in E-flat minor, but otherwise it's almost exclusively played in Russian classical music. Very interesting, wouldn't you say?

He wrote 7 symphonies - actually 8. The revision of the 4th is given a separate opus number from the original.
