  • @mahler151 He actually wrote 7 but the 5th is the last written while the USA and Russia were still allied vs the Nazis and thus Prokofiev's work after that is much less known in the West. (And in Russia at the time as well.)

  • This symphony was written duing Leningrade bloade in 1942 during the second world war .

  • @mrmolinodelahoz You're correct!

  • @Tfrne

Very interesting indeed. The only other piece I can think of in E-flat minor is one of Chopin's preludes.

  • @mahler151 This is played in E-flat minor, which is a very rare key and is associated with mysterious or oblique moods. "Take Five" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet is also played in E-flat minor, but otherwise it's almost exclusively played in Russian classical music. Very interesting, wouldn't you say?

  • He wrote 7 symphonies - actually 8. The revision of the 4th is given a separate opus number from the original.

  • What an odd sounding symphony! It's so Prokofiev! I thought he only wrote five symphonies?

  • Sounds like it is played on a Moog synthesizer. What´s that electronic buzz in the mix?

  • Very good transcription and performance!
