I remember doing this when I was in boy scouts it tasted so good being cooked over an open fire people dont know how good things are the old fashoned way,,,I have always said its time to get back to the basics in life instead of this high tech society,,time to get back to the basics in life before we all forget,,what the good life is!

This is same way I've always made cobbler. Yes, I use just regular canned peaches. You can buy dutch ovens from Cabela's. Make sure when you buy a dutch oven it has the lid with the raised rim to hold the coals. You can also buy the lifter at Cabela's although I've seen them at my local hardware store that sells BSA supplies.

There's nothing like a nice, hot peach cobbler on a cold campout. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

looks tasty! I'm going to get my dutch oven tomorrow!

We had a dutch oven cobbler recipe in boy scouts, it was one can cherry pie filling, one can sliced pineapple, one chocolate cake mix, one stick of butter (cut into pats), and if you wanted to you could add marshmallows about five minutes before you removed it from the coals. This recipe can easily be doubled for a larger crowd. This recipe won quite a few cobbler contests when we went to boy scout camps and everyone that tried it loved it.

Nice video; however, a major improvement might be to leave out the fruit cocktail...if you need the moisture, how about a can of evaporated milk?
can you use canned peaches instead of pie filling?

I have only used pie filling. the moisture from the filling bakes into the cake mix and the thickness of the filling keeps the cobbler from being to messy.

@castironspudger Why do you line the pot with alum foil other recipes put it directely into an unlined pot.?
MyREDTAIL 1 year ago
@MyREDTAIL only for ease of cleanup. a well seasoned pot should be easy enough to clean but i was just just trying to make it easier on myself. there is no other benefit i can think of for using foil.

It is called the Mair Dutch Oven Lifter and can be purchased through many of the Dutch oven supply web sites.
