On September 21, 2007, a dedication ceremony was held acknowledging the HoChunk's presence in southern Minnesota (1855-1863). A marker was placed on a site on the Minnesota River where Hochunk people arrived and were greeted and welcomed by the Bdewakanton Dakota prior to the US-Dakota Conflict of 1862. Hochunk elders attending the dedication came from Winnebago, NE. They included: Mr. Matt Pilcher, Chairman, Mr. Jim Snow, Vice-Chairman and Mr. Charles Noble Rice, Spiritual Leader. Mr. Leonard Wabasha (Dakota) welcomed the Hochunk tribal members back to Mankato and invited them to attend the Mahkato Wacipi, September 21-23. Mankato Mayor, John Brady extended a warm welcome and expressed his appreciation to the HoChunk and Dakota for their contributions to the Mankato community.
It is located on the bike trail along the Minnesota River between the North Star Bridge and the entrance to the trail by the buffalo in Reconciliation Park.
