FYI, According the Book of Cain, the Warrior that kills Diablo is actually Aidan, the eldest son of King Leoric.

You don't get it.. the hero can't resist the temptation. His mind is corrupted by Diablo, making he want to get all that power. Because that's how Diablo returns. It also happens in Diablo 2. When Diablo makes Marius betray Tyrael, and leting Baal free Diablo. Marius manages to get the soulstone, but Baal appears again, telling him he is Tyrael, and he borrows the soulstone.
