good job Brazil...
each country should be able to plant they own food.
Peru should plant food instead drugs... but how will they be without coke????

Then, opposing bio-diesel in every district should be political suicide,as well. For all the same reasons.

This is the major problem I see with globalization. They want every country to be dependent on every other country for something. They don't want anybody to be self-sufficient at anything.Individual governments DO need to be more responsible for their peoples.I believe America would have less of a "Mexican problem" if Mexico's government was more willing to take care of it's people. For example. And that's not about race,it's about governments taking care of their people.

Ok, all grains are rising. American farmers receive more for their corn by making it in to ethanol. Plus Ethanol production and the jobs that come with it are in every congressional district. Opposing Ethanol is political suicide because you are saying no too millions dollars of investment and hundreds of jobs in small towns across America.

Very observant, but rice is a subsitute for corn. As the cost of corn rises, people will look for a dietary subsitute like rice. The demand for rice will then rise and so will the price.

you don't make ethanol from rice. You can't grow corn on rice farms.

If countries were more self sufficient and less inter-dependent, then there would not be such a problem. In my opinion, it is the failure of the government to not feed its own people. While some profit motivated corporations are very powerful , they are not absolutely responsible for food shortages. One could argue that the corporate structure of agribusiness is more efficient and produces more food than an otherwise less affluent substitute.
