Let's face it...it died of the fucking terror it had to go through. It was exposed to treatment that it wasnt used to (how many times did you see a Baboon Mother lick her baby with a Tounge the size of a mans hand and if you ever got licked by a house-cat you know about the structure of feline toungs) even as the cat just followed its instincts on how to treat a young one. Even though films like these try to romanticise Nature it really isn't a Disney movie, don't forget that...
"Tragically, when morning came, the camera team realised that the tiny baboon was no longer showing signs of life. "We think it was simply too small to survive the night without its natural mother and the sustenance she could provide," says Joubert. "As the sun came up, Legadema realised that the baby had died, and moved on."
"Joubert adds: "We have just heard that she will soon have her own baby to care for, just as she cared for that tiny day-old baboon."
@crystaldragonwoman At the end when the narrator says the cold made the baby go quiet I assume he is implying that it died of exposure. If not, I doubt that the leopard could feed a day old chimp, it would have died of starvation within a few days.
