Sunday afternoon at The Boathouse in Kitchener's Victoria Park, but not just any Sunday afternoon. It's the end of an era, the final concerts, as the beloved live music venue is forced to close its doors, perhaps just for a few months while work crews dredge the lake and rebuild the shoreline, perhaps forever if the City cannot reach a compromise with restaurant operator Kevin Doyle.
For The Homewreckers, The Boathouse has been home every Sunday afternoon for years, first as backup band to the late great Mel Brown, and in recent years backing his widow, Miss Angel.
Drummer Jimmy Boudreau sets the pace and guitarist Chris Latta, playing Mel Brown's guitar autographed by BB King, lights up the melody on Summer Magic, a Mel Brown original. Veteran bass man Al Richardson and 15-year-old Colin White round out the band.
Filmed hand held by Philip Bast for The Boathouse documentary.
