Dominic, you make some valid points. I am an IELTS examiner in Asia. My problem is that candidates use regurgitated formulaic chunks of memorized waffle, basically trying to fool me as an examiner that their language is good enough for a 6.5. , when quite clearly it isn't. Yes, we can teach them the fast tricks as you so expertly demonstrate, but at the end of the day, they gonna have to do that in a test.
