Text:
Snowy days have come at last
Bringing memories from the past
When we'd glide across the snow
In a waltz so calm and slow
Winter days have come at last
Bringing memories from the past
When under the moon's cold light
We waltzed quietly through the night
Chorus:
Winter, midnight
Dancing in the moonlight
Silently, soundlessly
Not a step is heard
Twirling, whirling . . .
With the snowflakes swirling
Nothing stirs on this night . . .
Not a single bird
(Repeat first two stanzas)
Description: "Winter Waltz" was the first movement composed. Mr.Metzger decided to "go wide" in writing 8-harmony and utilizing some elegant counter melodies. Mr.Metzger writes, "I felt that the poem written by Anastasia R was quite beautiful, and captured a wonderful sense of nostalgia. Picking the meter was made easy by the title, as well as the fact that the poem has a lilting, waltz-like flow to it. was able to see a very definite bridge section that lent itself to a magical yet warm treatment. I wanted to end this movement with a sense of suspension, which would be resolved by the ostinato rhythmic pattern that begins the final movement. I thought it would be nice to have a rising pattern that sounds as if it's heading towards a resolution, but then to have it not resolve, leaving a sense of wondering what's going to happen next. I also immediately knew that this was the movement to feature my son, Jeff, playing the violin".

If there are any requests for the other Glazing Ice pieces, I could probably upload them too.

It's a great composition! I love it. There's some intonation spots on the violin, but still beautiful. Good pictures, too. :)

@Polititic The violin is gorgeous! What are you talking about?? I'd say the words are a little shallow, but yes still beautiful.

@Analitrea I re-listened to it and I must say I was a little harsh on my comment above. I made it after listening to some Heifetz. Thank you for posting!
Sometimes I worry that there isn't much good music any more, in a time with teen idols who sing commercial stuff that is hardly worthy of the name music, but then I hear music like this and know there are still many people out there who perform, compose, and listen to great compositions!

@Polititic I know, I worry too. I hope that there will always be music like this. Because there is no life without music.
