A compressed edit of what we (my family and I) do a few days before Easter Sunday.
When we were kids, on Sunday morning boys came over to chase girls with water siphons or - the more gentlemanly lot - with cheap cologne in an attempt to pour it over them. Because they are flowers. And spring is here and it is time to be fresh and scented... Boys also had to recite some clumsy, embarrassing or occasionally quite funny poem about girls and spring and beauty and being well hydrated... They received eggs in exchange (or money).
Anyway. After that came an agonizingly long church gathering, during which some food got consecrated by having the priest spraying holly water over it while chanting weird Latin words. Then everybody went to eat. A lot. Of ham.
Out of all this only the eggs made sense to us.
About ghimes eggs:
Ghimes (Gyimes) is the name of a special, beautiful area of Transylvania (Erdély), a land populated by Hungarians (Csángó tribe), but part of Romania (where my Grandparents had to flee from).
The tool for drawing on eggs is called kesice (keh-shee-tze).
For making it you need:
stick
can
very strong, dark human hair (or horse hair)
hemp string
Strictly natural, pure bee wax should be melted for drawing. Synthetic wax stinks, burns and kills.
Patterns come from ancient, pagan drawings (star patterns, sun crosses, spirals, floral shapes, stuff like that) Decorating eggs is a metaphor for the spring renewal of life. They all symbolize something. Each drawn egg is a good wish, a message of some sort (love, health, fertility, good luck, protection from evil or harm).
The Stalin statue is a door stopper. Sometimes I kick it.
My Family is awesome.
This video is absolutely incredible! So creative... I can't believe that it hasn't had more views already...
I'm making a quick video for my new remix of the Ministry track Psalm 69. I'm using eggs and the church as the theme of the video. The original track addresses corruption in the church, abuse of power, and abuse of faith. I believe that we should all stand up against cruelty and corruption.
Would you mind if I use some of your video?
