"Walang pinagkaiba sa mga terorista ang mga mambatas na sumusuporta sa RH Bill" (Law-makers who support RH Bill are no different than terrorists), said Archbishop Jose Palma, CBCP vice president.

According to the report, the bishop said that RH Bill was "anti-life".

Palma's statement contradicted what Archbishop Paciano Aniceto told Radyo Inquirer in an interview Monday when he said that the Catholic Church would respect supporters of the RH Bill.

Aniceto said, for one, they meant no disrespect to President Benigno Aquino III and his position about the RH Bill.

"This is not against the president. We love the president, we respect him, we are against only the policy of RH Bill because it is contrary to the Filipino cultural and moral values," he said.

MANILA, Philippines - There is no let up in the war of words between the backers and those opposing the Reproductive Health Bill.

In a press conference in Malacañang, deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte asked anti-RH Bill advocates to focus on the issues at hand rather than resort to "anything else."

Valte is reacting to a statement issued by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma that advocates of the controversial bill are no better than terrorists. Palma, Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines vice president, said the measure could lead to the deaths of many innocents.

"The level of discourse should remain on the issues and not on anything else. Siguro mabuti po talagang yung isyu lang ang pinag-uusapan," Valte said.

In a press release, former Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros said the statement was "foolish and ridiculous."

"Terrorism is the method of taking hostage a community or a population to demand the unattainable, and exacting it through the use of violence. So how could the simple desire of providing women and Filipino families with another chance at life is called terrorism? It flies in the face of logic," Hontiveros said.

She said the Catholic Church hierarchy is only further isolating itself from its constituents.

"What is happening to the church? Why is it detaching itself from the very people it is supposed to shepherd? Recently, they call the President unchristian for his fervent support for the bill. Subsequently, they ask pro-RH Catholics not to go to church anymore. What's next; call us infidels or worse, followers of Lucifer?" Hontiveros asked.

Sorry to say that the Catholic Chuch leader under CBCP are not the real Catholics for calling RH Bill supporters terrorists. What's wrong with this picture? Catholic Church fighting the rights of the people? Insults thrown left and right by the Catholic Church! Do we need to support the Church? Stop those donations! In fact, tax the Church! Enough! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tax-the-Catholic-Church-and-all-religious-organ...
