This Can't Be Happening...End BSL

This can't be happening...

So you come to my home and you ask to measure my pet

I don't understand, I'm confused, I'm upset

He's so little, so young, he's all that I've got

Look he's dancing with joy, my puppy, my boy

What do you want? What is it you need?

He starts to look scared; you're in numbers...the POLICE!!

I've never done wrong, never committed offence

But you don't want to hear and you don't want to stay

You just want my dog, you must take him away?!!

My eyes fill with tears and you don't want to see

I hold my pup close; I say he's staying with me

But you talk to each other, you mention the law

And now you've got back up outside my door

The neighbours are looking, they're gathering outside

But I've done nothing wrong; I've got nothing to hide

I'm just a dog owner, this can't be right!

Look what do you want? I'm not a criminal, right?

He's just a pup, he's my mate, he's my friend

He's my world, now he's cowering in front of you

And you're talking about paperwork and my mind is a whirl

You need a signature you say, because my dog is a banned breed

What?!! And I'm crying like a fool and there's something I need

I need help, I need someone, I need answers, I need time

But you're all stony faced and you state there's a crime

My dog is a crime?! But he's wagging his tail!!

And from behind my legs he let's out a small wail

I pat him and hug him and say it's alright my boy

There's been a mistake and I give him his toy

But he's frightened and he's whimpering and I realise in shame

That this is no mistake - and this is no game

They won't leave the house unless my puppy goes too

I've got nothing left, there's not a thing I can do

I've got to sign this paper but I don't understand

Or they're going to arrest me, this is their plan.

So I look down at you and you look up at me

I promised yah didn't I, you'd be safe with me

When I gave you a home and we bonded as one

Nobody told me that a nightmare had begun

How do you hand over your most precious love?

When there's coppers in the house, I gotta give you up?

My sweet little boy, I can't betray you but I can't stop them

The one thing you could count on, me, I'm at rock bottom

I'm useless, I'm worthless, but I've committed no crime

But in the eyes of the law, they say that I'm lying

They talk pit bulls and aggression, they talk bites and statistics

And they pass me a pen and say sign it... it's pointless

I'm pleading, I'm crying, I'm trying to save your life

And this pen is a weapon, might as well be a knife

Cos they've cut out my heart as they take you away

My beautiful friend... God help you I pray

I'm not even religious but Christ Almighty, hell

I'd get on my knees in a church if it helped

The neighbours are watching as I scream my goodbyes

And the last thing I see is the fear in your eyes

Those sweet little eyes that I've loved from the start

Now you think I've betrayed you, I was made to -- My heart

It's all broken n' smashed, for a puppy, my friend

The one that I said I'd be with to the end

So when I hear on the news, now I've got all clued up

That the Met's seizing pit bulls...I'll remember my pup

Because for you it's too late, and you're gone from my side

Gone from my life and I'm all out of pride

N' I'm all out of faith and I'm all out of hope

The dangerous dogs act? Well it's a sinister joke...

When puppies are murdered because of tape measured lies

When you're made to listen to your dog's goodbye cries

When the law is a cruel unstoppable force

When millions of people can see it's a farce

When innocent dogs die alone in a cell

With no one to comfort the pity of their hell

Well, count on me now, because I'm gonna fight

I'm one of an army turning wrong into right

Your law is a shame, now I know the meaning

Of B.S.L. -- it's a license for stealing!

Stealing the innocent - inhumane legislation

Well not in my name and not in my nation!

So I'm broken but I'm ready and I'll keep it real

Cos I'm not giving up until there's repeal

You made me give up on the best friend I knew

But I'll change this law if it's the last thing I do!

Sleep safe my boy, my gentle little lad

And know that we love you...

In my opinion BSL is cruel to both dogs and their guardians, if politicians had to go through the emotional distress of having one of their innocent family pet dogs seized and locked up, I am sure this law would be overturned in no time. Those who make this law and perpetuate it clearly have no idea of the suffering it causes, the prejudice it creates and the broken lives it leaves behind. Dogs are humankind's best friends, we should treat them with care xx

Unfortunately this has to be said. And you said it beautifully. BSL is wrong just as most laws to govern behaviors of the individual in the privacy of their own environs is wrong.
