Salt is only sodium chloride, Nasopure salt mix is hypertonic and buffered in a 2:1 ratio. NOT SALT. I

This mixture soothes while moisturizes. and feels good!

The solution doesnt NOT go down the throat when done correctly, simply hold your breath for 1 second.

@GRZCOMO You can buffer your salt with natron yourself, 2:1.

And tilting your head is still better because it cleans the paranasal sinus better.

If you breathe through the mouth (or say "aaaahh" or count or even sing whilst cleaning your nose), no water should get into your throat.

You can let water get into your mouth (and spit it out) on purpose, though, to clean the passage between nose and pharynx.
