Women have reason to feel insecure in our metros today. As a rash of barbaric rapes and audacious assaults breaks out in our cities, brutalising young and old women, those who work, commute by local trains feel increasingly vulnerable.
A similar instance was witnessed at Kurla railway station on Wednesday, when two college students got into a brawl with a pervert who was chasing them for last four days and passed lewd remarks.
The brave girls instead of bestowing to the perverts advances, approached the on duty railway police constable patrolling the railway platform, who nabbed the accused and took him to the railway police station near platform no 1.
Preliminary inquires revealed that Shadab Shaikh (17) and Salma Shaikh (17) both residents of Kurla, regularly took the 11.00 am CST local train from platform no 4 for their college in Matunga.
Since last four days the accused Dilip Verma (22) also a resident of Kurla and employed with a private firm in Masjid Bunder, made it a point to follow the girls and passed lewd remarks, said senior inspector Dilip Gore.
In their complaint the girls stated that he would start with saying hi, hello, how are you before starting the lewd remarks. He would even follow the girls after they alight from the train at Matunga station, said the police.
On duty constable Ramesh Kale, added, I could hear a brawl at the station and crowd had gathered, suddenly the two girls approached me and I caught the accused before he could escape.
