  • Aw, Serena...she was just this beautiful in the years before she passed, too. I was lucky enough to take some of her classes at her NYC studio. To answer christinasteener, I had heard that she passed out while shopping for her next costume, went in to the hospital, and passed a few days later...but I may be wrong. At any rate, it's great to see she lives on in the hearts of all her students and those that have seen her dance!

Thank you for your kind thoughts. We were on our way to the flea market on fathers day 2007. She collapsed in my arms, and passed away 5 hours later at Belview Hospital, of a coronary embolism, having never regained cosciousness.

  • how did she die?

  • @christinasteener

I was headed to the 26th street flea market on fathers day 2007 with my mother, and on the street she collapsed in my arms, got up up, said she never felt like that before, then passed out again. The ambulance came minutes later, she didn't regain consciousness and died of a coronary embolism 5 hours later at Belview Hospital. It is speculated that if she took a blood thinner drug or even an aspirin a day, she'd still be here.

  • why do people keep saying RIP? she's giving classes in Hells Kitchen now?!!!

  • @Kajika21 Serena passed away in 2007, There are many imitations, but only one original Serena.

  • Serena Wilson was my third teacher and I had traveled with her to Egypt in 1987.

I had started in '79. She could be Marine Corp strict and yet very funny.

    Bless you Serena!

  • Thank you so much!

  • I was fortunate to have Serena for a teacher at a workshop in Vegas when I first started dancing. She was dynamic, sweet and inspiring. Her poetry --one poem in particular, gave me a personal connection with her that continued to motivate me in my dance as well as my life.

  • really helpful video...simple and sweet..thank you

  • Serena died in 2007
