Cogito, an online community and website for gifted middle- and high-school students who love math and science, connects talented students from any country with each other and with working scientists and mathematicians to expand their interests and learning beyond the classroom.

Cogito (which is Latin for "I think" and part of Descartes' Cogito ergo sum) was launched in December 2006 by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth in partnership with other leading centers serving gifted students. On Cogito, kids gather to talk to each other about extrasolar planets, epigenetics, oceanography.The site also features profiles of both young scientists, often written by students themselves, and a free searchable database of opportunities and resources for students pursuing interests in math and science. Most of the site is open to the public, but the discussion forums, groups, and blog creation are for members only. Membership is by invitation. So far, Cogito's 5000+ members come from more than 70 countries and six continents!
