Video of Worlds Quickest Subaru WRX STI running an 8.341@158.69mph and yet to be beaten (22 Jan 2009).

This car was run in AWD down the quarter mile, not in RWD as some ppl may think. The confusion is due to using RWD for the burnout to warm the big rear tires. Once the burnout is finished, the car is switched back into AWD again.

It has a highly modified fully manualised Subaru Impreza 4EAT AWD transmission, with billet output shafts and custom AWD/RWD selection switch. The transmission can be purchased from Tony Rigoli Performance (TRP), for around $13K. It is modified to allow the driver to change between AWD/RWD at the flick of a switch.

Also, the title specifically states "Worlds Fastest Stock Chassis AWD 4CYL Subaru WRX STI". So make sure you read that carefully and understand it is specific to stock chassis awd subaru's.

So before posting any "someother car is faster" type of comments, make sure that other car is a subaru, is awd, is stock chassic and only has 4 cylinders. If it isn't, and it is about some evo or some full tube pro drag car, your comment will be deleted.

  • It most definately was AWD when this record was set.

It runs the standard subaru front diff with PPG LSD and STi front axels, and Ford 9" rear diff with Harrop centre and Mosser rear axles.

The reason most get confused, is because TRP would switch to RWD for the burnout and then back to AWD for the run. Watch the video closely and you can see all four tyres spin off the line.

  • They did in this run, but the car was rebuilt as a dedicated rwd drag car and now has a subaru flat 6.

  • It's AWD u fucking idiots.

  • 60psi on an EJ20... nuts

  • rofl at all the people thinking it's rwd. not sure awd is giving much advantage there though as during the time it is most needed the front tyres are hanging in the air

  • You can even hear the announcer mentioning the 4wd, wow noobsters

  • I should pay more attention! I thought this was there 7.50 car that IS rwd. MY BAD!

  • SO please, before you post any further comments, take your own advice and "get a clue".

  • The reason the front tyres lift off the ground is because the torque split is rear biased, as well as the way the suspension is set up for drag racing, as well as the huge whp it has naturally shifting weight to the rear of the vehicle.

  • lol another person with no clue. This car IS an ALL WHEEL DRIVE Subaru drag car. It still uses the Subaru impreza auto and AWD setup, albeit with upgraded rear diff so it doesn't explode with the huge whp it has.

As explained by me countless times now, when doing the burnout to warm the tyres, it is switched to RWD - but ONLY FOR BURNOUTS.

IT IS SWITCHED BACK TO AWD BEFORE STAGING AND RACING.

  • really? You're really that dumb?

I RWD can lift the front tires it launches so hard. Christ there are cars that have run the entire 1/4 mile on the rear tires....ricer noobs!

  • that is insane.
