My original spec music video for one of my favorite modern ballads, "Dancing," by the enchanting and immensely talented Italian artist Elisa.
The lyrics to this song have been interpreted in many ways, but a common emotional thread centers on the heartbreaking realization that you, for some reason, cannot be with the person you love, and that time is poignantly relative/repetitive. The singer laments a situation where an abuser is preventing hope and love to thrive, and I aimed to surrealistically represent that antagonism through the idea of blind discrimination against what was/is/will be "forbidden:" an interracial romance in 1953...a feminist bond in 1975...an intergalactic couple in 2068...and gay marriage in 2010.
The footage for this piece was originally cut for a Crunch Gym short film competition with the open prompt of interpreting their motto of "No Judgments." (you can view it here: http://www.CrunchGymShorts.com/#/watch-video/5950277) I had such a good deal of extra material and an even greater wealth of passionate conviction for this concept that I decided to cut a music video version as well.
Like the music, I'll leave the story and imagery up for interpretation, but I sincerely hope to shed some creative light on a complicated issue with a simple answer: LET LOVE LIVE.
