When hood units originally were developed in the 1950's, units had a high nose was to protect the crews in the even of a grade crossing accident. Eventually, the need for better forward visibility, and the advent for better and safer glass, caused the fall of the high nose units.

@TrollKing2009 I believe that the high hood is to make running LHF as good (almost) as SHF operation, visability wise, but other that that, I don't know. Maybe it's for a reason to operate LHF for extra crew saftey.

At 1:00 in, the bus for the rail yard tours was leaving; I was on it, and I tried to grab a few pictures of this unit.
