In the week that we mark 150 years since Darwin's "On the Origin of Species", students at Imperial College London and members of the public will be taking part in a unique experiment to answer the question "Does culture evolve by natural selection?"

I'd say done differently, and there's not much scope for novelty with that approach.
Actually, quite a few people have done music with GAs too. DarwinTunes is just the first one to gather lots of ratings from lots of people (OK, yes they are largely self-selected).
