Do you know chocolate? This is chocolate!
In a tiny village located deep in the mountains of Ketama, North Morocco, the lives of the people have been intricately tied in with the drug hashish for centuries. In addition to serving as everything from a bartered good to the basis and philosophy of an entire social system, hashish is also both the foundation of dreams for the citizens and the reason for stagnation within the community. This is not only a portrait of people whose very livelihood is forever intertwined with hashish, but a microscopic look at a community whose controversial foundation is at odds with the priorities and laws of an increasingly globalized world.

  • Fascinating on so many levels. Do you know what year this was filmed?

  • @TheALGAYDA it was released in 2002. Its a scandal whats going on in Morocco at the moment. They are having a massive crack down on hashish production in the Rif area even though the we're given permission to grow the kif (cannabis) plants by the King of Morocco many years ago.

    Plus Holland is looking to ban the sale of imported hash in the coffeeshops, much of which comes from Morocco & other poor countries where people rely on what little money they make from producing it.

    Money = access power

    whether that is access to food, water, shelter, tools, computers, mobility, etc

    Without money you cannot move.

  • @westie420uk Thanks for replying. I was going to ask if you knew what it was like these days. Sad to hear that these ppl are still suffering trying to make ends meet. I hope the citizens of Morrocco & Holland fight the ban- which would just make it go underground anyway, right? I would love to see a follow up and hear what these people have to say about the current market and the 'corruption' trying to take over.

  • I really like this film. All the talk about wanting to go abroad reminds me of all my West African friends who also talk incessantly about leaving.

  • Amazing film at first I was trying to find out where it was to pick some weed no one will notice a mug or two but now I don't have any words to say it was an insight but somehow I envy them not the weed but everything else the happiness personally if they sold the green they would make a bundle pot and hashish is 10 years ago we all love the herb as nature provided GREEN
