William (Bill) Alexander was born in 1915 in East Prussia. As a youth he used his artistic talents to paint carriages and murals for local aristocrats. After the war, Bill and his family immigrated to North America to pursue their dream of building a home and to share Bills gift of painting.

Bill and his wife, Margaret, traveled throughout the United States and Canada teaching painting and making friends, often selling paintings to meet living expenses along the way. During this time Bill worked hard to develop his wet-on-wet technique and products. He developed the base medium Magic White, extra-thick oil paints, and special palette knives and brushes. These products work together to help artists, even a beginning artist, create beautiful scenes on the canvas. By 1974, when he completed his first Emmy-winning Magic of Oil painting television show, Bills dream had become a reality. He had built himself a home in North America a home in the hearts of thousands who discovered with Bills help that they could have the almighty power to fire in and be happy painters too. Today, Bill continues to teach the world to paint through his television shows available on DVD.

  • YOU VILL PAINT!

  • He is so amusing, and I absolutely adore his passion for his work. His brushes look really nice too, I couldn't help myself... I just ordered 5. I was surprised how affordable they are, I can't wait to try them! Thanks for uploading the videos guys, my dad used to watch him all the time. Maybe having some of Bill's brushes in front of him might give him enough confidence to actually paint with me.

  • i don't quite understand a big part of what he's saying.

  • this guys good, but I like Bob Ross 100 times better. Both can paint, this guy is funny, and a good sense of humor, but frankly, he's stressful to listen to. Bob Ross is soothing, relaxed, and also has a good sense of humor.

  • @RidleyE It's you who needs to give credit where credit is due, this guy taught Bob. I do prefer bob though

  • Just don't mention The War.

  • Beautiful painting, I will never get tired watching you paint.

  • @RidleyE get some facts kid

  • @RidleyE

bob ross was bill`s student. in one of the "joy of painting" shows bob gives him the credit.

  • @RidleyE Alexander was is the 0riginal painter of this tech. I watched him long Before Bob ross came along!
