For me (just my own subjective opinion) there are only two performances of this emotional aria - regardless of it being a tribute to the shade of a tree :-) - that are worth listening to. This wonderful performance of Jussi. And the performance of the late Caruso. Both of them empathetic geniouses.

What a sound! This recording demonstrates that Björling had a gorgeous and seamless tone from the bottom to the top of his register. What incredible technique. He combined technical perfection with a haunting tone quality that brought tears to the eyes of his listeners. This is his centennial year, with celebrations planned in both the U.S. and Sweden.
