Street rowdies can also become Bangalore's Mayor

Bangalore City Corporation's (BCC) 2007-08 annual budget is 3302 crore rupees. It is more than Goa state government's annual budget (Rs. 2263 crore). But, to become a Mayor of this Silicon City, all you have to be is become a corporator of a tiny ward. And you are the lucky man/woman if the Mayor post is reserved for your gender and/or your category. You are super lucky if your party has the majority and no one in your party except you belong to the category for which the Mayor seat is reserved!!!

And, don't worry about governing the city. Why? Why should you? Anyway your ward's reservation is going to change next time and you won't be able to stand for an other election. You can get away with any amount of corruption, inefficiency, incompetence, and irresponsibility, thanks to rotational gender/caste reservation.

Bangalore's citizens should think about this. The present 1 year tenure for Mayors and indirectly electing the Mayors should change. Only then some honest, competent, and one who knows and governs the entire city will become the mayor.
