how much did all this cost? did your relatives help?

I built all the sets I have over time with my own money. You should be able to determine the cost of a set to you by looking at a current price guide.

Are the 1942's that you have silver or not?

They made both that year. The 1942-P, and 1942-S are all silver. The Denver Mint struck 1942-D nickels in silver and also a copper/nickel composition. I have both in my collection.
