Big Issue sellers buy the magazine for 70 pence a copy then sell it to the public for £1:50 making 80 pence profit on every one sold. The magazine came out first in London in September 1991 launched by John Bird and Gordon Roddick. Back then it only cost 50p with half the price going to the vendor and it came out monthly. Now it comes out weekly.
