Death of the Press?

College newspapers around the country are making the switch to all digital formats to compete with changes in media consumption. Some are even releasing apps to help students in different areas of student life. What does this mean for American university students? John Iadarola and Lisa Ferguson discuss on TYT University.

Our newspaper does run interesting stories from time to time. They actually did a feature on the girl who did the creepy "Boyfriend" response because she's from the area and she used to go to my school. They do have good exclusives

I was an avid reader of the school paper when I was in college. On a recent trip back to the campus, I couldn't find the paper anywhere. Saddened me, also felt it dated me heavily.

college newspaper is so not a thing at german colleges.....never heard of one .... only like a journal twise a year that is mostly made by the university....but nothing like a real paper

I love when my hypothesis are correct. Nobody wants to read student newspaper online there are way too many websites that are more interesting including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

When I used to read the student newspaper it was always the stupid content as sex positions, ASK (insert title), movie reviews, campus events, achievements, and so on. The most interesting part was when females harshly criticized males in the paper, but they would never let males harshly complain about girls.

I think college newspaper is a good way to give an idea what campus life is like to incoming freshmen and transfers.

One time while I was visiting UC Santa Barbara, I took a college newspaper and found some interesting stuff. There's even a "sex position of the week" section there. It was reverse cowgirl that week when I visited.

As someone who worked at the student newspaper for two years during the online transition I can tell you that no one reads the online version of a student newspaper. At NMSU only the print newspaper gets read and even then it is normally used to prop doors open. The online readership is lower because there are better websites then the student newspaper which is just an extension of the student body government, which is in itself an extension of the administrators.

Not many people are dedicated to reading the college paper on a daily basis, especially with the wide access to all news outlet and instant information on the web and through Twitter. We have a weekly paper at my university, and it's more than enough.

College newspapers are done. Reality is people will be on Facebook, Youtube, or Twitter before ever considering looking at their college paper. There is too many better things to do now-a-days than looking at your school newspaper and competing on the internet just adds another hurdle. Major newspapers are going away and college newspapers will go away faster than that.
