Border Collie Rescue shares concerns about worldwide exploitation and abuse of animals along with many other members of the animal rescue world.

This short video expresses some of those concerns.

If you have concerns over the exploitation of Greyhounds in racing you may wish to sign this petition on the 10 Downing Street website :-

The music used in this video is a song - 'Is it bad enough' by Maria Daines, and is used with her kind consent.

Maria is involved in canine rescue in the UK and is an active campaigner for welfare issues and against BSL.

The Border Collie is designed to be a sheepdog and was originally used for herding livestock in the English and Scottish Borders. Border Collie Rescue assesses all dogs coming into our care for herding ability and will rehome them as stockdogs if that is what they need to do but we also assess and rehome for scent discrimination skills to the Police, Prison Service and Excise to detect drugs, explosives and firearms -- to SARDA and other rescue organisations for mountain rescue and search and rescue work -- to help deaf, blind or otherwise disabled people as well as for working trials, flyball, agility, obedience and other interactive sporting disciplines and many of our dogs have qualified for Crufts in these disciplines. Those that show us they do not need or want to work are rehomed as PAT dogs, pets and companions.

  • A really far reaching video to share a message that must be heard and seen by the world. Keep up the excellent work because you are making a difference to the lives of animals who desperately need our voices and our help to survive.

  • Thanks for the input artwoman05

We really do hope our efforts can help make a difference.

The initial feedback on this video has been very inspiring and encouraging.

We are certainly resolved to keep doing it and Colliewood Films and Border Collie Rescue are open to suggestions for other projects and how we can do more to raise awareness of these and other issues.

Got any ideas, get in touch.

  • Powerful, it will make people think.Polititions must listen.... and soon. B.S.L. is stupid, it does not work and causes suffering. There is enough cruelty in the world, let us be compassionate and sensible.

  • Hi hazeandel,

Hope it does make people think - & act.

Getting politicians to listen is more difficult.

If there was a danger of losing votes - their jobs & power - we will get their attention.

The "silent majority" needs to get behind the changes they should make.

BSL is a stupid approach to DD problems - it's not a problem of dogs or breeds - its the way people socialised them, treat them, train them - handle them.

Until owners are targeted & punished there will be no improvement.

  • Well done for this video to Colliewood films and Border Collie rescue and BorderlinesUK and Maria Daines.

Great song with a great message in a great video - collaberation works. 5*

  • Hello 69ajax,

    Collaberation!

"something created by working jointly with another or others"

Welfare issues are often very divisive - even between animal rescue organisations.

Odd, because we are all supposed to be working towards the same aims so co-operation should be the keyword.

The politics of rescue often get in the way - making it difficult to make progress.

This is not lost on those who oppose progress - they can divide us and win.

We really should all collaborate more.

  • This video says everything. Powerful and dramatic and hopefully will make everyone think about their attitudes towards animals.

  • a lot to think about how we treat animals

  • Thank you skipskipper.

    It's taken us a while.

  • Hello lovetoallanimals

This is a point that was much debated in the making of this vid - the heartbeat.

It's very emotive & we weren't sure if we should use it or not & - if yes - should we fade it or stop it abruptly.

    The difference seemed significant.

Then there was - what sort of heartbeat? Human - Synthetic - animal - choices!

In the end we picked a dog with a heart problem & recorded it, fading it out on the video - we felt that left hope.

It's a wonder the video ever got finished!
