My recently departed 2005 RX-8 6 speed accelerating from 70 up to 140 mph. Car is bone stock with the exception of a K&N drop in air filter. The car seems to be struggling at the end because it was an uphill section. I've had the car up to 152 mph before on a flat stretch (on a closed course). This run was performed by a professional driver on a closed course.

  • Alright I looked into it a little bit and as far as I could tell there isn't any performance or handling differences by getting a Shinka. It is just a more luxurious trim package, basically one step above the Grand Touring package. Though it is considered to be a special edition so they are worth more.

  • As far as I know, the Shinka is just a special edition with different colors inside and out. I don't believe there is any handling or performance advantage over any other RX-8. If someone knows something to the contrary, feel free to correct me.

  • And at 9500 RPMs the rev limiter kicks in.

  • It's a 2005 Mazda RX-8 Grand Touring with a six speed transmission. I never looked into shutting the buzzer off because I liked it. I wouldn't have to take my eyes off the road while driving just to know when to shift.

  • Oh and the spark plugs cost like $30.00 a piece. But if I could afford the gas for the driving I do, I would buy another in a heartbeat. I found it a blast to wring out to 9k (in fact its good for the engine to do so) plus I always liked the styling.

  • Only one complaint was the gas mileage but I knew about that when I bought it. Best mileage I was able to get was 22 mpg. It had a 16 gallon tank and I managed to get 300 miles out of an entire tank once. The only other thing that I knew about but was still annoying was that once you started the car you didn't want to shut it off until it was at least at running temp. If you didn't you ran the risk of flooding the motor plus it wouldn't do the apex seals any favors either.
