Les Kellett (1915-2002) was one of British pro-wrestling's most famous and popular characters. A rough n' tumble individual like many grapplers of his generation, Kellett had a reputation for toughness that was second to none. However, it was as a comedian in the ring that Kellett found his greatest success. He was and looked very much like the average farmer, but Les Kellett was a huge draw in the 1960s and 1970s. As wrestling on the small screen became a fixture across the country, Kellett became wildly popular for his buffoonery.

Although these clips only constitute four matches (Bobby Barnes, Leon Arras, Steve Haggetty and Mel Stuart) from the early 1970s, Les Kellett's genius is certainly on display. He is, without a doubt, the most beloved and best drawing "comedy wrestler" of all-time.

  • Just to give some perspective on Kellett for anyone not familiar with him, he was a year older than Lou Thesz (whose 95th birthday is tomorrow - 4/24/11)

  • Les was a ref who pretended not to hear any submissions from wrestlers he thought hadn't suffered enough, when asked if he could do any better the legend was born, he was 47. A very hard hardman he was the total opposite when outside the ring but surprisingly was a consciences objector who went to prison rather than go to war

  • he was hilariously funny but he could also wrestle really well.benny hill tune suits him great though

  • Awsome video !! Very Very Very Very good job

  • we can all take a page out of Les Kellett's book and still be plenty left to read

  • If ring entrance themes had been used back then, the one for this video would have been perfect for Mr Kellett :)

  • Amazing my old man would love to see this...Les Kellett was his all time favourite wrestler ...modern wrestling can't touch this lol.

  • I watched him as a kid and he was in his 40's when i was born so was at least 45 when fighting here (bcos it was b/w when i was born). Les was my mams favourite and was still fighting in his 60's. Brilliant :)

  • @Fidodido6113 he passed in 2002.
