This video promotes the Broadcast Television Engineering Technology program at Napa Valley College, a California Community College. This two-year program trains aspiring broadcast/media engineers. The program is certified by the Society of Broadcast Engineers.

This video presents information on the program in the context of a fictional drama. About 25 students participated in the making of this video and its Spanish version, including students from a film/TV acting class on campus.

All dialog is in English.

Skip past the first 30 seconds unless you enjoy watching big analog clocks.

I made this video in between the times we were performing maintenance on the studio, so I did not have time to shoot all the scenes! It will still give you an idea of the program.

The Spanish version of the video is more complete, missing only one scene. YouTube has rejected this video because of its length (17 minutes). It is available at the Internet Archive or from Mininova via the BitTorrent protocol.

For more information on the program, see the SMPTE Student Chapter 11 web site at http://www.smpte11.org/ - unfortunately, Napa Valley College canceled the program at the end of the Spring, 2011 semester. However, you can still watch the video to get an idea of why one would want to attend such a program and what you would learn from completing such a program.

  • Very sad. The best thing that ever happened to Napa is over. People who want to get out of Napa to pursue a real life have to find another way to do it now. If your going to cut budgets why not start with the Napa Valley Liberal Arts and Basketweaving classes. Take out the best career opportunity that ever happened to Napa? That makes no sense. But then again nothing that I ever experienced there made any sense so I guess its a push. Budget cuts my butt. Yeah sure.

  • as a former telecommunication alumni, i can truly say that this program is the only way out of napa for a real life and real future. Keep up the good work and remember GARY VANN IS WATCHING YOU!!!!

  • speaking as a napa valley college telecommunications alumni, i can truly say that this program is the only way to get out of that hell hole of a town of napa and make a real life for yourself. PS to whoever reads this.... GARY VANN IS WATCHING YOU@!!!!!!!!
