maybe if you put a good dry wall primer you would not have the issues with areas drying faster. Dont skip steps like primer for a good reason.

But if you prime the walls before your apply the texture, which most people don't want to do, you won't have to worry about the areas bleeding into the patched areas and you won't have to apply the texture twice.
